THEATRE THAT MAKES A SPLASH

ABOUT.
Chromolume is a London-based theatre production company and the producing arm of Upstairs at the Gatehouse, an award-winning Off West End theatre with a long history of presenting ambitious, high-quality work. Since assuming leadership of the venue in 2023, Chromolume has reimagined its potential as a development hub for bold new theatre with national and international ambition, with a particular focus on socially-engaged plays and new musical theatre.
Recent productions include WHILE THEY WERE WAITING, the debut play from entertainment legend Gary Wilmot; the new musical adaptation of MOOMINVALLEY IN NOVEMBER; and the world premiere of Marks and Gran’s DR FREUD WILL SEE YOU NOW, MRS HITLER.
Commissioned work includes TOM LEHRER IS TEACHING MATH AND DOESN’T WANT TO TALK TO YOU, which sold out twice at Upstairs at the Gatehouse before transferring to OSO Arts Centre, and is currently preparing for a national tour.
Chromolume also produces musical theatre revivals. Recent productions include PIPPIN; Sondheim’s ROAD SHOW; SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD; and YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN which transferred to Shanghai and major venues across China.
Other work includes the critically acclaimed IN CLAY, the most nominated show of the year at the Off West End Awards, children’s musical A BIRTHDAY FOR BEAR, and BLOOD GOLD & OIL at Riverside Studios.
Alongside our producing work, we provide general management on selected projects, including MADWOMEN OF THE WEST transferring from Off-Broadway to Riverside Studios and the premiere of THE MUSICAL MEDEA.
A defining feature of our practice is early and sustained involvement in the development of new work. We support projects from their earliest stages through developmental milestones towards full premieres, drawing on wide-ranging producing, technical, and creative expertise to create theatre that makes a splash.
